How a Flutter-built patient app launched to a 4.9/5 rating in 11 weeks, against a fixed clinical launch date.
Lumen Health needed a patient-facing mobile app to replace a web check-in portal that patients routinely abandoned mid-flow. With a clinical launch date already committed to partner providers, Artovate built and shipped a cross-platform Flutter app in 11 weeks — raising check-in completion from 61% to 93% and launching to a 4.9-out-of-5 App Store rating.
Patients were abandoning the existing web-based check-in flow before completing it — often at exactly the moment they were most stressed and least willing to fight with a clunky interface. Lumen Health's partner clinics had already committed to a go-live date, which meant the new app had no room to slip, and it had to handle sensitive health data to modern security standards from day one.
The engagement had three clear objectives: design a check-in flow simple enough to complete in under 30 seconds by a distracted, possibly anxious patient; ship on both iOS and Android without doubling the engineering budget; and meet a fixed clinical launch date tied to partner provider commitments.
Discovery
We audited the existing product and interviewed stakeholders to understand the real constraints.
Research
We looked at comparable products and real user behavior to ground decisions in evidence.
Strategy
We defined the plan, success metrics, and what we'd deliberately leave out of scope.
Design
We designed and validated the experience before any build work began.
Development
We built it clean, documented, and reviewed at every milestone.
Testing
We tested across real devices and edge cases before launch.
Deployment
We shipped on a monitored, zero-surprise release schedule.

Testing the check-in flow with real, non-technical patients earlier than planned surfaced friction points that never would have shown up in an internal review — that early testing pass ended up reshaping two core screens before engineering time was spent building them.
Lumen Health is now scoping a provider-side companion app, reusing the same design system and backend established in this build.
